In an great finish the Tombstone Huckleberries won in dramatic fashion over
the slumping Lewisville Fire Ants by a score of 7 to 4 at the
ballpark.
Tombstone came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning as they scored 5
runs on 4 base hits. The key at-bat was by Eric Hinske who elicited a roar
from the hometown fans when he launched a rocket-shot out of the park for a
Grand Slam homerun (his 10th of the season). Both teams totaled 9 on the
afternoon.
Mike Remlinger(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 and 2/3 innings and
allowing no runs. Chad Cordero(3-3) took the loss in relief. He was knocked
around pretty good, giving up 4 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings.
Doug Salzwedel was in great spirits in his post-game interview. Yet, when
asked about his feelings after the thrilling comeback victory, he
volunteered, 'I'll tell you this much - I know how my counterpart, Adam
Arnett, feels right now - and it's not very good. It's terrible when you
come up on the short end of one of these!'
